Serve the Lord!
Mission for children
The 2007 Virginia Conference made the following statement: "1,206 local United Methodist congregations across Virginia [with a membership of] 341,346 Virginia United Methodists [are] engaged in ministry to others on behalf of Christ." " The purpose of the annual conference is to make disciples for Jesus Christ by equipping its local churches for ministry and by providing a connection for ministry beyond the local church; all to the glory of God." Peakland United Methodist Church embraces the avowed aim of the United Methodist Church, to serve the world with open hands, open hearts, and open minds, striving in all ways to be Christ to the world.
Open hearts for others in one's own home, church, community, and the world often are found in the littlest hearts.
Children are encouraged to be in mission within their own families.
Sunday School classes have mission projects that are completed during the Sunday morning classes.
Children serve the community through holiday Salvation Army Christmas stockings and Angel Tree gifts.
The Sunday School classes have recently sponsored a “Crayons for Guatemala” mission project . Each child who brought a package of 8 Crayola crayons to Sunday School or the church office by the end of May helped the PUMC mission team which will be leading a Vacation Bible School in Tierra Blanca, Guatemala, in July. The crayons you gave will go to a child who attends.
Through PUMC the children are offered the opportunity to provide Kits for Conference, glasses & toothbrushes for the Jamaican Medical Missions team.
