The Lord’s Prayer
Let Us Pray
By Dr. Timothy Gerde
Easter defines us as Christians. Without the
Resurrection we are merely followers of a good teacher who was wrongfully
killed. Belief in the Risen Lord is the way we affirm the person, the work
of God acting in Jesus Christ, and the hope we share in Him of life
everlasting.
We live out this hope in prayer. God not only has
spoken to us in Jesus, but the life of our Lord is an invitation to
prayer. It is the basis upon which our relationship with God is made real
day to day as Christ followers.
The first followers of Jesus knew this and asked Him
directly (Luke 11:1ff) how to pray.
Jesus taught them what we know today as The Lord’s
Prayer. I will begin on Easter Sunday a series of sermons on The
Lord’s Prayer. For seven weeks we will consider this prayer and its
meaning for the Christian life.
I would invite you to consider in
this season of the Resurrection, and through the sermon series, your own
prayer life. Is it a place of deep relationship, of trust, of growth, and
of renewal with God for you? Let us covenant to grow together in this
time, giving thanks to God for the life we share with Him in prayer. And
for what God has done for the world in the saving event of Jesus Christ.
