You’re invited to . . .
Aunt Bea’s Old Fashion Southern Picnic at Eagle Eyrie!
Sunday, August 25, Court Street and Peakland churches will meet together
for fun, food, and fellowship to celebrate our new ministry partnership!
Plan to gather at Eagle Eyrie by 4:00 p.m. and stay until dusk.
Bring a salad or desert side dish to feed at least 12 people, lawn chairs,
and bug spray. The churches will provide chicken, bread, beverages,
and watermelon. We would like to have homemade ice cream. If
you can help with the ice cream, please contact the church office.
Activities include music, a sing-a-long, softball, horseshoes, volleyball,
croquet, and a playground for children of all ages.
Court Street UMC and Peakland are exploring cooperative ministry opportunities
to benefit and strengthen both congregations. Peakland’s ties to
Court Street go back to our early history when Court Street helped a struggling
new congregation find its footing for ministry.
The Eagle Eyrie picnic gives both congregations a chance to renew old
friendships and make new ones. Come and share in the fun and become
a part of this exciting new ministry direction.
Eagle Eyrie is out Route 501 toward Big Island. The camp is on
the right side of the road and takes approximately ten minutes from Peakland
Church. Families, call some of our senior citizens or singles and
offer to pick them up and bring them along!
Reflections on God's Great Gallery Art
Show
Everyone who lives now or has lived in the past was created by God,
and no two are exactly alike! We all have God given talents unique
to us that enable us to create exciting ideas that enhance our lives and
bring joy to our world.
In honor of God in our lives, we have been preparing all summer for
a church-wide festival of original creations by everyone in our church
family (including children). The Art Show will begin Sunday, August
18, and remain on display through Sunday, September 18. These creations
may be something you have created through the years or something you will
complete this summer. Remember, Jesus had a sense of humor as well
as the message of the cross.
Each entry will be submitted with a spiritual quote from the Bible by
the creator of his or her work. We are open to suggestions from you
for making this an interesting program that will enrich all our lives with
a Spiritual festival of talents.
Matrix Movie Night with Pastor Tim
Wednesday, August 21, at 7:00 p.m., Pastor Tim invites high school
youth and interested adults to join him in the Fellowship Hall for a discussion
of the popular, r-rated movie
Matrix.
Fans of the film are no doubt aware of the religious symbolism and rich
analysis that the movie brings for group discussions. Pastor Tim
looks forward to leading a session on this symbolism and what we as viewers
and Christians gain through this film.
With sequels planned for release in the near future, now is the perfect
time to gather together for the sharing of insights and asking questions.
Participants should come having already viewed the film. Clips
may be shown to facilitate discussion. This event is not suggested
for anybody under high school age.
Popcorn will be served!
