Our future in action
The Rev. Dr. R. Franklin Gillis, Jr., former Richmond District superintendent
and director of Four Seasons Ministry, will be the facilitator for our
planning retreat on Saturday, May 18, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Dr. Gillis has served a variety of pastoral appointments throughout
Virginia. His ministerial roles include youth minister, campus minister
at the College of William and Mary, and pastor of local churches. In July
of 2001 he became the Interim Director of Communications for the Virginia
Conference and editor of the conference news magazine, The Virginia Advocate.
As an educator, he is a workshop leader, motivational speaker, and Adjunct
Professor at Wesley Theological Seminary and Virginia Union University
School of Theology. He established Four Seasons Ministry as a resource
to equip pastors and laity for more effective ministry.
Members of the Administrative Board and Program and Ministries Council
are strongly urged to attend the retreat, but the meeting is open to anybody
interested in participating. Our focus will be the development of a vision
for ministry at Peakland and how to effectively implement that vision.
The group will gather at 8:30 a.m. for a time of informal fellowship
and a light breakfast. Lunch will also be served. Please watch the May
5 and 12 bulletins to sign-up so the Hospitality Committee has a rough
idea of how many people will be attending the retreat. Should you miss
the sign-up, feel free to attend the retreat as we always prepare for extra
participants.
