Here is a list of activities and opportunities to help Peakland as we practice “Reaching Out, Serving All and Extending God’s Table.”
Watch for more information and sign up sheets in future bulletins.
Reaching Out
On September 8th we are again partnering with Rise Against
Hunger, a non profit that packages and delivers meals all over the world. We will gather in the fellowship hall to pack upwards of 12,000 grain based meals in 2 hours. Following the meal packaging we will gather together for dinner. From now until Sept 8, we will be collecting money for this event.
We need to collect $5,200 by Sept. 8 to help cover the cost of this event. If you would like to contribute to this event, you can either pay by check with Rise in the memo line, or click on the donate now button at the top of the page and select Rise Against Hunger. If you have any questions, please contact Andrew at peaklandassociate@gmail.com
To register for the event, click here to fill out the Google form.

There are only 4 spaces available each month and you can register at the sign ups by the mission drop off spaces in the narthex or fellowship hall.
Extending God's Table
Birthday Kit Collections
We are seeking Birthday Cake Kit items to make Cake Kits for ParkView.
We are in need of the following:
Cake mix
Icing
Candles
Regular size
canned Sprite or 7-Up (not diet)
9 x 13 foil cake pan with lids
All items can be left in the Jason Stanley Mission Corner.
Believe it or not, there are kids in Lynchburg coming to school on Monday morning not having had a decent meal all weekend. To help these kids out, Parkview Community Mission formed Food for Thought where nourishing, easy to prepare meals are sent home with the kids every Thursday for the weekend. These meals are delivered by volunteers in bags from the Food for Thought warehouse to schools all over Lynchburg. Peakland volunteers have been delivering these meals to Bedford Hills and Paul Monro. We averaged about 75 bags a week between the two schools last year. If you are interested in joining the wonderful volunteers from the church that are already delivering. Please contact John Buckley by email jebuckleyjr@msn.com. The kids that get to eat good, healthy meals over the weekend will be most appreciative.
Worship/Church
Time flies! It is hard to believe that 20 years have passed since we renovated our sanctuary.During that time our comfortable pews have been well used! As some of you have noticed the fabric on the pews has become sun-damaged, ripped, patched up and worn. The time has come to make our pews perfect again!
What needs to be done:
We need to reupholster all the sanctuary pews. A small group of church members with refined tastes and an eye for a good deal have found a fabric like the current color and style which is both durable and affordable.
When will this be done:
Chris Curd will do the reupholstering after our fabric arrives, likely mid-September. The work will be done in between Sundays, so we expect no disruptions to our usual Sunday worship.
How can I contribute?
The cost is approximately $13,000 for all the pews. All donations welcome! A $300 donation will cover (ha!) the cost for a full pew, and $150 for half a pew. Those who sponsor a full pew or half pew will be celebrated and acknowledged in the Sunday worship bulletin when we bless the
completed work.
Please make your donation to Peakland UMC and designate it “Pew Perfect.” You can also give online at PeaklandUMC.org and use the special button for the pews or use this QR code to make a directed donation:
The Coffee Fellowship is looking for some additional volunteers to assist with setting up for our Coffee Fellowship. Our Coffee Fellowship between services is an important part of our Sunday worship. The Fellowship time is between our worship services, from 9:15-11:00.This gives all attendees time to gather with members of other church services to share coffee/tea and donuts. If you would like to help or find out more about the Coffee Fellowship, click here to email the office.
The Ruth Circle will meet Tuesday, Sept. 10 at 9:30 am in the Fellowship Hall. The Ruth Circle meets the first Tuesday of the month from Sept. to May.
The September meeting will be held on the second Tuesday due to the LaborDay holiday. For more information and/or any questions, please call Diane Wilson at 434-384-2831 or email ddrwilson@yahoo.com
